There was a time when I felt like I was behind in every area of my life.
Behind financially.
Behind professionally.
Behind emotionally.
Behind in my healing.
Behind in becoming the version of myself I thought I was supposed to be by now.
It felt like everyone else had figured something out that I had somehow missed.
Social media certainly didn't help. Everywhere I looked, people seemed to be building businesses faster, parenting better, living more intentionally, and moving through life with an ease I couldn't quite find for myself.
For a long time, I believed I needed to catch up.
Now, I'm not so sure.
What If You're Not Behind?
What if you've simply been growing in ways that can't be measured?
The truth is, life isn't linear.
There are seasons when we bloom and seasons when we simply survive.
There are years when we build businesses and years when we're learning how to rest.
There are moments when we feel expansive and moments when we're simply trying to make it through the day.
All of it counts.
All of it matters.
Clay Has Taught Me This
One of the reasons I love working with clay is because it refuses to be rushed.
Clay dries in its own time.
It cracks when we force it.
It asks us to slow down and pay attention.
You can't skip steps in ceramics. Every stage matters—the messy beginning, the waiting, the refining, and the transformation that happens in the kiln.
Human beings aren't so different.
We live in a culture that celebrates speed and productivity, but nature has never worked that way.
Growth has always been slow.
There Is No Finish Line
I think so many of us are living as though we're trying to arrive somewhere.
The organized version of ourselves.
The healed version.
The successful version.
The calm version.
But perhaps life isn't asking us to arrive at all.
Perhaps it's asking us to participate.
To notice the beauty of becoming instead of obsessing over where we think we should be by now.
Soft Growth Still Counts
Growth doesn't always look like:
- Starting a business.
- Buying a house.
- Reaching a goal.
- Crossing something off a checklist.
Sometimes growth looks like:
- Asking for help.
- Taking a nap.
- Going to therapy.
- Setting a boundary.
- Drinking your coffee while it's still hot.
- Learning to speak more kindly to yourself.
- Choosing rest over productivity.
These things matter, too.
When I look back at my own life, the moments that changed me most weren't the biggest ones. They were the quiet moments when I chose to begin again. To slow down. To trust that I wasn't late to my own life.
Let Yourself Grow Slowly
If you've been feeling behind lately, let this be your reminder:
You are not behind.
You do not need to rush your healing.
You do not need to become a different version of yourself by next month.
You are allowed to move slowly.
You are allowed to change your mind.
You are allowed to grow at your own pace.
After all, the most beautiful things are rarely rushed.
